Spring Camp!
Last month, I said that the St. George's Day Parade was a must for all Scouts. And I and the other Leaders were gratified to see a fine turnout from the Scout Troop - no less than 26 Scout marched to the Dome for the annual service and renewal of their promise. A relatively high proportion of black shoes, a few black trainers and even fewer semi, sort-of black! As usual, shoe polish was not conspicuous by its presence but with a parade of that size, who was counting?
Well done, the Troop!

Dick's Overnight Hike

One sour note this month - a good hike had the edge taken off it by some less than responsible behaviour in the Hut after lights out. Remember gentlemen, the first Scout Law!

Farewell to Jon Day

Jon Day (SPL), finally reaching a ripe old age, on the 18th April said farewell to the Troop after what amounts to nearly a lifetime of Scouting! Sorry to see you go Jon - maybe we'll see you again if the Ventures get back on their feet!

And another one bites the Dust!

Another loss this month was Steven Mather who has decided to devote his time to the CCF - a vacant place in the Hawks' ranks is now waiting to be filled!

A Mention in Dispatches

At the St. George's Day Parade, one of the Troop Colour Party, proudly carrying the Troop Flag before him, failed to spot a trap lying in the grass for the unwary - and stepped in it! A little package left by some cute little puppy dog! Jonathan Waters leapt gallantly to the rescue and, with some tissues supplied by ACSL Jennie Bevan, provided some necessary cleanup work - only to find that the parade was moving off and no Rubbish Bins anywhere to be seen, wherein to deposit the mucky tissues.. In fact he was unable to get rid of his unpleasant burden until he reached the Dome when he was sent to wash his hands!

Summer Camp 1997

So far we have had 22 Scouts "sign up" for Summer Camp. Only 3 more needed for the absolute maximum of 25! Don't miss it! You'll regret it!
