On the 17th of February 1996 Phil Bartley and I went to Battle for a part of the Pathfinder Award, and this is what happened.
We met at a Longridge bus stop at 7.55 am to get into Brighton. We reached Brighton at about 8.10 to get the No.30 bus into Battle. We waited for 20 mins, and then it came. On the long journey we went past universities, colleges, Drusillas Zoo and railway tracks.
The bus route took a long 2 hours 10 minutes to get there , we reached Battle at about 10.30 am. Unfortunately we could not go into Battle Abbey because they were refurbishing, but we got leaflets and picture cards of Battle Abbey. So we went to Buckley's Yesterday World to have a look what it was like. At first we only thought it was a shop so we bought some things as proof and presents. Then we found out by a leaflet that it was a historic building with all the different rooms in a house in a common street, we thought we should look around later. We had a look around the small village and saw a sign saying that a car boot sale was on today so we walked down there to have a look. It wasn't much except a few cars and a local supermarket called Budgens . We walked around the cars and the supermarket . It was about 1.30 pm and we thought of having some lunch. It was hard deciding because there was no Mcdonalds or a Burger King, (not even a burger bar) so we had to go with a bakery. There wasn't much to choose from but in the end after going in about 3 or 4 bakeries we chose our lunch.
After lunch we went down to the Alldays store and brought a drink each (because the drinks in the bakery were too expensive). Then we went down to where Pyke House, a school trip venue, was to see if there was any thing to do, but there wasn't so we went back up to the Buckley's Yesterday World and we bought a ticket. We went in and it was quite good everything looked so life-like in the house. At the bottom of the house there are about 7 different old fashioned arcades, there were shooting ones, rolling the coin and ball games. Then we went out side to the guess what scenes and a kiddies play area. After playing around and guessing we had a last look around the rural but interesting village. At 3.30 we caught the bus for another 2 and a bit hours journey home.
