On Friday evening, the 30th May, 21 scouts from the 42nd arrived at Parkwood Campsite for the annual Spring Camp. This year, as a result of the high level of experience among the Patrol Leaders, the camp was organised entirely by PLs and APLS - the Leaders only provided transport for tents, equipment and the only patrol unable to arrive under their own steam (or in their parents' cars to be more accurate!)

The food, menus, programmes, parental consent forms - everything else to do with the camp was the responsibility of the Scouts and their PL's and APL's.

The Leader Team were on site throughout but had very little to do except to occasional chivvying up of the odd Scout with strange ideas about "Self-Collecting-Firewood".

The Scouts appeared to be well fed - one Patrol even feasting on steaks! The Leaders, of course, were hard to beat with their "Chicken Mexicana" but the levels of nourishment were generally excellent!

All cooking was done on traditional wood fires - and no trace was to be seen at the end of the camp! Apart from a rather distressing tendency from one PL to emulate the Venture Scouts (by burning pallets whole!) fire lighting and fire care was very good.

An excellent camp from the Leaders' point of view - things look good for the camping standards at Summer Camp!

Up the PLC

Friday 16th May - Phil Bartley, Andy Ruck, Andy Catling and Chris Munday attended the District PLs course - "Up the PLC". Also on hand, assisting the District Team was Ben Manuifold of the Owls, having already attended a previous "Up the PLC" - he knew the ropes...

Now they have discovered how much the Leaders do, and how much the PLs are supposed to do, we, the Leader Team, look forward to a future with maybe just a little more action from our own PLC.

Incidentally, Ben (known by the District Team as "Gasket") is now a contributing member of the Regional PLC.
