Sussex Downsman

This year we were able to field a very enthusiastic team, drawn largely from the successfiil Baker's Dozen Teams from earlier in the year.

Despite the fact that the team, Andrew Ruck, Chris Almond, Paul Bevan and Dan Hawkins were just a tad younger than the official minimum age, they were allowed to start and promptly set off at a sparkling rate, holding a similar pace to the two 4th Uckfield teams (the eventual winners) and actually passing one of their teams at one point. However, the Uckfield lads' advanced years and greater experience told in the end and they pulled steadily away after the Southease check point, duly finishing in First and Second places.

I cannot remember who finished Third. Sufficient to say that Fourth Place was taken by the (slightly under-age) Glorious 42nd Brighton (Saltdean) Scout Team Up against teams of fifteen year olds, this was a very important achievement! If this is what the lads can do at this age, what will they do next year?

Very well done, Paul, Dan, Chris and Andrew!

Lions Club Swimarathon

Two teams entered this year, a three-man and a four-man. The laps completed were 60 and 61 respeptively. Another notable contribution by the Scouts! The Swimmers were:

Chris Cafling, Andy Catling, Alex Dale, Andrew Ruck, Paul Bevan, Paul Baker and Jonathan Aikens.

PL's Training Course

Up the PLC was held again at Parkwood, run, as usual, by the ADC (Scouts), Dave Jackson. Attended by five of our aspiring APLs and PLs, this time there was no Wide Game contribution from the 42nd Leader Team. Anyway, it rained cats and dogs and Pete would have got his wig wet!

Mountain Bike Weekend

Some of our scouts attended this event at Broadstone Warren on the 12th October. Those who had completed the first three requirements of the Cyclist Proficiency Badge qualified for the fourth part and thus, much to their surprise, were awarded the badge with no further questions!
