Summer Camp

This year the Troop went to Pinsent Scout Camp Site on Teg Down, just outside Winchester -whose local district site it is. As Pinsent is a fairly small site, we spent a fiar amount of time "off-site" for widegames and hikes. Notably the main Hike Day which saw three different hikes - a seven miler, a twelve miler and a 28 miler (yes - 28) for the really "hard men"!.

The standard of camping is really reaching a reasonable level - even though we still have a noticeable number of younger Scouts who believe that firewood will collect itself and the washing up is for mum!

Some other notable events were the pioneering exercise run by Alex Dale and Pete's pot pourri of activities which included picking up buckets from the other side of a wall to changing places when balanced precariously on a plank!

Altogether an enjoyable and memorable Summer Camp!

Brownsea Island Camp

As a reward for their hard work in the previous months, Dick organiseda PLs and APLs camp on Brownsea Island: the venue of BP's first Scout Camp in 1907. 11 PLs and APLs plus 3 Leaders set out at 5 o'clock in the morning (a start time that Dick may take some time to live down!) and we arrived at Poole Harbour in time for the 9a.m. ferry to Brownsea. Once there, we were allowed to set up camp whereever we like - and, by chance, we picked the same spot that BP used in 1907! Class will tell!

No Patrol points or heavy Leader supervision for this camp - the PLs ran it all by themselves and a good time was had by all - even though the SL spent the first day sound asleep - poor old chap!

Most of the boys agreewd that they were well fed but some mention must be made of the dismay Paul Bevan expressed on being told that his breakfast on the Sunday morning was "Pop-Tarts"! Next time, we feel that Paul will be more involved with the menu selection!

Warden Duty at Parkwood

As the Pls camp on Brownsea Island coincided with the Group's warden duty weekend at Parkwood, the GSL kindly volunteered to take a small group of experienced scouts to Parkwood to carry out the required Duties. Paul Baker, Jon Aikens, James Payne and Lloyd Passingham were the boys selected and we look forward to hearing how they fared! A report will be featured in our next issue!

Scouts we lost over the August break:

Ben McManus; Ben Woolford; Mitchell Horne; Ryan Horne.

Welcome to new Scouts:

Michael Currie
Robert Malyon
Richard Umney
Richard Payne
and the New Merlin Patrol!
